‘Talent' hopeful lied about service?
Country singer Michael Poe wowed the crowd Monday on NBC's America's Got Talent with his war tales. The Army sergeant said that he served for 14 years and that he sustained back and brain injuries in an '09 grenade incident in Afghanistan.
Or did he? E! News reports that Poe's claims have been called into question by military reps. "Sgt. Poe's official military records do not indicate that he was injured by a grenade in combat," Lt. Col. Kevin Olson told E!.
Olson says Poe served in the Minnesota National Guard from December 2002 to May 2011 as a supply specialist and was in Afghanistan for one month in '09.
Poe tells TMZ his injuries are real, saying that many injuries go unreported. He would not produce medical records to back up his claim. NBC is staying mum, while an unnamed Show Insider says contestants receive thorough screenings only when they reach the Top 48. Has Poe made the cut? We don't know.
Trump to Miss Pa.: Apologize!
Donald Trump says he's thisclose to filing a defamation lawsuit for "massive damages" against former Miss Pennsylvania Sheena Monnin, 27, who gave up her crown this week charging that the Miss USA contest was rigged.
Monnin, a Pittsburgh gal who has a master's degree in psychology and wants to earn a doctorate in theology, said a fellow contestant knew who the top 5 finalists would be Sunday, hours before they were ostensibly selected on live TV.
Trump's lawyer tells TMZ that Monnin can avoid a suit if she apologizes for "her utterly baseless claim that the Miss USA pageant results were predetermined."
Trump told NBC's Today that Monnin was bitter she didn't win. "I did see her for about a second," he says. "I never felt that she had a chance, and all this is is buyer's remorse.''
