Russell Crowe's performance as underdog boxer James J. Braddock delivers a knockout blow. His sparkling screen role, however, was overshadowed last year when he tangled with a hotel concierge following its US premiere.
Critically acclaimed, the film, which traces the roller-coasting fortunes of Braddock during Depression-era US of the 1930s, was battered at the box office, but will get a deserved second wind on DVD.
Although light on extras, there's a short but engaging analysis with director Ron Howard and writer Norman Mailer of Braddock's 1935 title fight.
